Carrying Children Through COVID-19 and Beyond

For more than a decade, you’ve advocated with us to protect children at the highest risk of deadly diarrheal infections.

But even as we celebrate progress, children and families now face the cascading impacts of COVID-19 and the global pandemic. the pandemic's disrupted immunization services and supply chains, malnutrition, overwhelmed health systems, and worsening economies conspire to unravel progress. Childhood vaccination rates suffered their largest decline in 30 years, and the unprecedented demand for care weakened already fragile health systems. UNICEF calls COVID-19 the biggest threat to child progress in its 75-year history.

COVID-19 causes 2.6 indirect maternal and child deaths per each reported COVID-19 death. - Global Financing Facility.

As global supply chain disruptions, economic instability, and climate change continue to complicate routine immunization and care, we must redouble our efforts and raise our voices even higher to call for proven solutions that save lives.

Targeted investments in vaccines, WASH, and essential medicines – basics of primary healthcare – can help communities regain ground lost during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

No child should die from preventable illness because of COVID-19. No child should die from preventable illness, ever.
