Southeast Asia is among the regions hardest hit by childhood diarrheal disease. Every year, nearly 335,000 children lose their lives to the severe dehydration caused by diarrhea.1 Sanitation and malnutrition remain major issues, as does access to lifesaving care in rural communities.
However, progress in some countries is setting a model for similar efforts throughout the Mekong region. Long a pioneer in oral rehydration therapy, Bangladesh is now advancing simple yet innovative approaches to clean water.
